Therefore, the Value Added Distributor signed a distribution contract with the manufacturer PoINT Software & Systems GmbH. PoINT Storage Manager is a universal storage management solution supporting a mixture of various mass storage technologies. Furthermore, a seamless data migration from obsolete storage applications to new systems is possible. Avnet already offers a special bundle consisting of PoINT Storage Manager and NetApp Appliances as a powerful migration solution for obsolete MO/UDO jukebox systems. The combination of PoINT Storage Manager and NetApp appliances already convinced numerous system integrators during a recently organized road show.

PoINT Storage Manager Migrates Data to Up-to-date Storage Technologies
By offering PoINT Storage Manager, Avnet now provides a comprehensive product, which meets all requirements regarding backup, data and technology migration as well as long-term archiving of all network data. The integrated migration is the particular strength of this new management solution: Existing storage systems are included into the innovative PoINT Virtual File System (PoINT VFS), so that present applications can use them without modifications. The users define by rules which data is to be migrated and whether and even how long the storage system to be superseded shall be used. Migrations are carried out automatically in the background and particularly without affecting the applications. Another main characteristic is the comprehensive support of all storage technologies in combination with the innovative file system interface PoINT VFS. PoINT Storage Manager virtualizes the connected, diverse storage devices and thus offers a common, transparent access for both users and applications to the existing systems. Finally, the well-known PoINT Tiered Archive File System (PoINT TAFS) completes the solution by network wide HSM functionality.
