09 June 2009: SANRAD switches 'solve DR woes' for hospital Print E-mail

Medical facility St Joseph Healthcare has solved some of its concerns pertaining to disaster recovery (DR) with the installation of SANRAD switches, the company has revealed.

The hospital's needs included the aim of increasing its capacity to deal with 14 terabytes of data in its Emergency Medical Record scheme, while building on - rather than replacing - its existing storage assets. SANRAD notes that, by meeting the latter need, it was able to save the facility some $300,000 (£186,500) from the overall cost of its upgrade.

In the installation, two SANRAD V-Switch 3400s were fitted at two sites operated by the hospital, each equipped with replication software and virtualisation capabilities.

Kim Tchang, SANRAD vice-president of marketing, says: "St Joseph Healthcare is a role model for virtualisation best practices by using its second DR location as a production site to handle all critical system operations."

SANRAD previously noted that virtualisation is a "new paradigm" which demands its own approach to DR and has the potential to reorder IT priorities for the organisations which adopt it.
