21 July 2009: CORAID’s CTO Brantley Coile to Speak at OpenSource World Print E-mail

Framingham, MA – July 21, 2009 – CORAID, providers of affordably fast SAN, has announced that Brantley Coile, CTO of CORAID and inventor of the ATA-over-Ethernet (AoE) protocol will be speaking at OpenSource World™ (formerly LinuxWorld®), scheduled to be held August 12-13, at Moscone Center West in San Francisco. OpenSource World focuses on innovative solutions in real-world environments using open source, open standards and open architecture as part of an integrated IT infrastructure. Coile’s session, “AoE: A Standard Protocol Has Commoditized Storage” will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at 2 PM. “It is an honor to be asked to give a talk at OpenSource World,” Brantley said.  “I’ve been involved in the Unix world for thirty years.  It has been fun to be a part of a culture that over the years has changed the way software is developed and the way everyone views operating systems.  We at CORAID hope we have, in our own little way, changed the way users view storage area networking.”

The inventor of stateful packet inspecting firewalls and TCP load balancing appliances, Coile will explain just how cool AoE is.  After a short history of Storage Area Network technology, his talk will provide a insightful description of AoE.  The protocol was designed to make it easier to deploy a SAN, provide higher performance than existing protocols, use fewer host resources than other protocols, all at a more affordable price. The AoE specification is just a dozen pages, demonstrating the protocol’s exceptional simplicity and effectiveness.  All in attendance will become AoE experts by the end of the session.  AoE has been standard in the Linux kernel since 2.6
